LaPointe Highlights Extended State and Federal Tax Filing Deadlines During COVID-19

CHICAGO – To support local residents and small business owners impacted by the financial devastation of the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, state Rep. Lindsey LaPointe, D-Chicago, is highlighting that both the state and federal income tax filing deadlines have been pushed back to July 15, 2020.

“As a result of this unprecented health crisis, many Illinoisans are experiencing financial and personal losses,” said LaPointe. “Allowing more time for taxpayers to file their annual income tax returns helps them focus on their health and safety, while providing financial relief to those who may have been put out of work or left without a paycheck due to COVID-19.”

The state’s income tax filing deadline has been pushed back to July 15, 2020 to provide individuals and small-business owners with more time and flexibility to complete their paperwork. Federal tax filings have also been pushed back to July 15 by the Internal Revenue Services (IRS). “I want to emphasize that refunds will continue to be issued for taxpayers who file prior to the new due date, and anyone who has already filed who is eligible to receive money back should not see a delay,” LaPointe said. “This extention will give families and small business owners the flexibility and time they deserve as we work together to combat this health crisis.”
