CHICAGO – In response to the severe shortage in emergency medical equipment, state Rep. Justin Slaughter, D-Chicago, is promoting Serve Illinois’ donation drive for personal protective equipment (PPE) for first responders and health care workers during the COVID-19 outbreak.

“To help support the fight against COVID-19, I am encouraging local businesses and residents to donate personal protective equipment to our first responders and medical professionals, who are facing a serious shortage in supplies,” said Slaughter. “Our first responders and health care workers have our backs during a crisis, and now more than ever, we need to have theirs.”

The state is currently seeking unopened medical supplies, including face shields, gowns, masks and gloves. All items donated should be in the manufacturers’ original packaging and unopened. Residents wishing to make a donation of equipment should contact Serve Illinois at ppe.donations@illinois.gov or visit their official website at serve.illinois.gov.

“It is clear that our first responders and health care professionals are facing a severe shortage of the supplies they need to protect their health as they work to contain the spread of this virus,” Slaughter said. “In order to get through this health crisis, we must work together and do everything we can to support our first responders and health care workers who are on the front lines in the fight against COVID-19.”
