GURNEE, Ill. – State Rep. Joyce Mason, D-Gurnee, is encouraging residents to use Call4Calm, the state’s new support line for mental health issues related to the coronavirus outbreak.

“When we let mental illness go unchecked, it can have a direct impact on our relationships, work, finances and physical health,” Mason said. “Mental health might seem less important because it’s not as tangible as our physical health, but making the effort to prioritize our mental health can make a big difference in how well we feel overall.”

To use Call4Calm, residents should text “TALK” for English or “HABLAR” for Spanish to 552020. Once a resident texts Call4Calm, a licensed counselor will reach out by phone within 24 hours. Call4Calm is free to use and all communication through the service is anonymous. For additional information, please contact Mason’s constituent service office by calling 847-485-9986 or emailing info@repjoycemason.com.

“If you’re struggling with depression, anxiety or another mental illness, please know you are not alone,” said Mason. “There’s no shame in asking for help, and the mental health professionals working with Call4Calm are here to listen and support you through this difficult time. If you or a loved one could use someone to talk to, I encourage you to reach out to Call4Calm.”
