DES PLAINES, Ill. – April is National Volunteer Month and state Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, is thanking those helping others during the COVID-19 crisis.

“Now more than ever, volunteerism is helping to save lives,” Moylan said. “There are so many people out there that need assistance. Front line medical staff, essential workers, elderly residents, those in need of food and shelter and many others are at an incredible risk and need the community to rally behind them.”

The COVID-19 response has created a need for volunteers for food banks, shelters, senior assistance, child care assistance, community organizations and other services. There is an urgent need for personal protective equipment, food, financial assistance and volunteered time. “In times of crisis our communities have a unique ability to come together, remain strong and help our neighbors,” Moylan said. “Now during the COVID-19 crisis volunteerism will help save the lives of those most vulnerable among us. I appreciate everything that has been done by local residents who have stepped up in this time of need.”
