LOMBARD, Ill. – State Rep. Terra Costa Howard, D-Glen Ellyn, wants her women constituents to know that they now have extra time to apply for the Conference of Women Legislators (COWL) scholarship, with a new deadline of Friday, May 1.

“In response to the COVID-19 epidemic, women over age 25 who are currently enrolled in college, or who are thinking about going to school this fall, will now have an extra week to apply for the Conference of Women Legislators scholarship,” Costa Howard said. “To further ease the process, COWL also will accept applications with unofficial transcripts.”

COWL is a non-profit, bipartisan organization of current and former female legislators. The COWL scholarship is intended for women 25 years of age or older who are looking to begin or complete their educations. Eligible students must plan to attend an accredited school in Illinois and must sign up for at least 6 semester hours, whether online or on campus.

The one-year undergraduate scholarship of up to $2,500 may be used toward tuition, books and fees for the 2020-2021 academic year. Up to 10 COWL scholarships will be awarded.

Applicants must submit an essay and a transcript (official or unofficial) by midnight on May 1. Applications may be submitted online at www.COWLIL.com.

Scholarship awardees will be notified by Monday, June 1. Awardees must provide official transcripts before the scholarship funds will be released.

“The COWL scholarship helps women who are 25 and older to fulfill their dreams of a college education,” Costa Howard said. “By extending the application deadline, we are helping to open the door a bit wider for Illinois women who are ready to take on the exciting challenge of heading back to the classroom and achieving their goals.”
