Manley Shares Dementia Caregiver Support

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Continuing her commitment to support Illinoisans living with dementia, state Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, is highlighting new resources available through the Alzheimer’s Association to provide additional support during the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

“Many Illinoisans are feeling extra stress and anxiety due to the COVID-19 health crisis. Feelings of uncertainty can cause even more pressure on caregivers of those living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia,” said Manley. “Caring for a loved one with dementia is already extremely difficult, so the Alzheimer’s Association recently released new resources to provide extra support during this time.”

As a past Alzheimer’s Association “Legislator of the Year,” Manley is continuing her efforts to support Illinoisans living with dementia and their caregivers and loved ones by highlighting new resources available through the Alzheimer’s Association, including a free helpline available 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 800-272-3900. Other available resources include:
• ALZConnected, an online community for those living with dementia and their family members at alzconnected.org
• Webinars with information for caregivers at alzwebinars.org
• On demand education programs and training courses at training.alz.org

Support groups and care consultation can be accessed by calling the helpline and additional information related to COVID-19 can be found at alz.org/COVID19.

“As we continue the fight against COVID-19, it is important that we look out for each other and check in on family, friends and neighbors,” continued Manley. “I encourage caregivers and family members of those with dementia to take advantage of the free support available through the Alzheimer’s Association to help them keep themselves and their loved one healthy during difficult, unprecedented time.”
