COLLINSVILLE, Ill. – To help older residents that are impacted by the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, state Rep. Katie Stuart, D-Edwardsville, is highlighting the Illinois Department on Aging’s (IDoA) recent move to expand meal assistance for seniors by $7 million.

“As families across our state adjust to the stay at home order, there has been a sharp increase in need for home delivery meal assistance, like Meals on Wheels, for seniors,” said Stuart. “Many of our seniors already live on a fixed income, which may have to be stretched even further due to uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. I am glad to see the Department on Aging step up to ensure our most vulnerable residents still have access to hot meals during this hard time.”

Stuart is highlighting IDoA’s recent move to distribute $7 million across the state to help meet the growing demand for meal assistance for seniors impacted by the COVID-19 crisis. If you or a senior you know are in need of any kind of assistance, Stuart encourages you to visit www.illinois.gov/aging or contact IDoA’s senior helpline at 1-800-252-8966, or 888-206-1327 for the hearing impaired.

“As we each do our part to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and bend the curve, it is more important than ever that we continue our diligence by abiding by the stay at home order and following recommended hygiene guidelines,” continued Stuart. “I encourage residents to use this time to check on their older neighbors, friends and family members to protect their well-being.”
