Costa Howard Highlights Senior Shopping Hours

LOMBARD, Ill. – State Rep. Terra Costa Howard, D-Glen Ellyn, is highlighting senior shopping hours at local grocery stores and drug stores across DuPage County to help protect seniors and other vulnerable residents during the COVID-19 outbreak.

“We want seniors and people with underlying health conditions to be able to do everyday activities such as shopping in the safest possible way,” said Costa Howard. “Fortunately, local grocery stores are adjusting their hours to do what they can to protect our most vulnerable neighbors during this public health crisis by setting aside special shopping hours.”

Senior shopping hours are times specifically set aside for seniors and other medically vulnerable residents to shop. Stores are cleaned nightly, so these early morning hours allow the most vulnerable populations to shop in a clean store without the large crowds. Senior shopping hours at the following local stores in DuPage County:
● ALDI (all locations): Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
● Costco (all locations): Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.
● Jewel-Osco (all locations): Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.
● Mariano’s (all locations): Every day from 6 a. m. to 8 a.m.
● Pete’s Fresh Market (all locations): Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m.
● Walgreens (all locations): Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.
● Whole Foods Market (located at 89 Danada Square East in Wheaton): Every day for shoppers aged 60 and older from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m.

“I encourage seniors and other medically vulnerable residents to take advantage of these special shopping hours that provide a safer space for those who may be at higher risk of contracting COVID-19 and suffering complications as a result,” said Costa Howard. “I also urge healthy residents to do their part to help our neighbors by avoiding shopping during these hours and allowing the most vulnerable among us to get the most benefit from these special hours.”
