Moylan Speaks Out Against Price Gouging During Coronavirus Crisis

DES PLAINES, Ill. – In response to reported cases of price gouging, state Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, is calling on local businesses to maintain fair prices on essential items residents need to combat the spread of COVID-19.

“I know many residents and businesses may be struggling right now, but the top priority has to be the health and safety of residents,” Moylan said. “I am asking business owners and residents alike to come together and help one another if you are able. Do not take advantage of the situation. Be neighborly and empathize with those who are struggling. Now, more than ever, it is imperative that we look out for the most vulnerable among us and make it through this crisis.”

Moylan is concerned at reports from around the state and locally of price gouging on items such as toilet paper, hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes. Gov. J.B. Pritzker issued an executive order Monday that prohibits price gouging, and Attorney General Kwame Raoul’s office has begun to investigate allegations of bad behavior. Residents can report possible cases of price gouging and fraud related to COVID-19 at illinoisattorneygeneral.gov.

“We need everyone to come together and recognize we’re all in this together,” Moylan said. “Take recommended, necessary precautions, but do not overreact. Wash your hands, avoid any crowds whenever possible, and if you feel sick please stay home and contact a medical professional.”
