Manley Measure to Expand Reporting of School Employee Sex Offenses Signed by Governor

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – To better protect children and increase awareness of situations involving school employees under investigation for sex offenses, state Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, recently passed a new law to increase reporting of sex offense prosecutions involving school employees.

“Schools should be positive environments where children are able to receive the excellent education they deserve without a risk to their safety,” said Manley. “Parents deserve to have peace of mind when they send their children to school and deserve to live without fear that their child could come into contact with a sex offender while at school.”

Manley’s House Bill 3687, which was recently signed into law by Gov. JB Pritzker, requires increased reporting of potential bad actors employed by schools by requiring state’s attorneys to inform school administrators and superintendents about the prosecution of a school employee charged with a sex crime.

“The protection of children against anyone who would want to hurt them or put them in an unsafe situation is top priority, especially while they are at school,” continued Manley. “I am proud to see this commonsense measure signed into law, ensuring children are protected and school employees that commit sex crimes are held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”
