CHICAGO – State Rep. Kam Buckner, D-Chicago, is backing bi-partisan legislation to create the Domestic Violence Task Force aimed at analyzing current Illinois statute in order to create effective policy solutions to better support victims and survivors of domestic violence.

“The devastating truth is that domestic violence continues to cause irreparable harm and trauma in the lives of many Americans,” said Buckner. “That is why I supported this bi-partisan measure to create concrete, meaningful solutions to address domestic violence.”

Rep. Buckner is sponsoring House Bill 4262, which would create the Domestic Violence Task Force in Illinois to conduct a comprehensive review of the process, operation, and enforcement of current domestic violence laws across the state. The Task Force would be required to submit a report to the Governor and the General Assembly with the findings of their review. According to the Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ILCADV), one in three women and one in seven men will experience domestic violence in their lives.

“Although this is a critical first step, I recognize that there is so much more we must do to truly support victims and survivors,” Buckner said. “By supporting this measure, it is my hope that we can work together across the aisle to create meaningful solutions to address domestic violence.”
