SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Thaddeus Jones, D-Calumet City, released the following statement in response to Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s budget address on Wednesday:

“The governor’s budget is a first step toward a balanced budget that lives within our means while funding critical services, but there is a lot of work to be done. In the coming months, I will continue to help increase property tax relief so that Illinois homeowners don’t have such an enormous cost burden, make full pension payments for our senior community and fund critical services such as Meals on Wheels and breast cancer screenings.

“A thriving economy is a crucial part of building a stronger Illinois, and I am going to fight for good-paying jobs programs and accessible skills training to create more sustainable career prospects that people of Illinois deserve. I have already worked to improve practical education in our community by bolstering accessible apprenticeship programs and allocating $1.8 million dollars in funding to South Suburban College.

“My commitment to following the priorities of our community is as strong as ever, and I look forward to all the opportunities the coming year will bring to work for a better future for everyone.”
