SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Will Davis, D-Homewood, issued the following statement Wednesday after Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s budget address:
“Today is the beginning of a bipartisan effort to craft a responsible, balanced budget that reflects the values of our state while addressing the serious financial challenges we face.
“I am particularly focused on ensuring that education on all levels is prioritized. This starts by expanding opportunities for early childhood education and giving parents options for affordable child care. We must also maintain our commitment to make education more equitable by giving school districts and teachers the resources they need to help students succeed in the classroom.
“Properly funding higher education and ensuring that residents have the chance to receive a MAP Grant or other form of assistance is also critical. We must support efforts to give individuals the opportunity to secure a high-wage career, and earning a degree can help make that a reality.
“There will be difficult decisions ahead, but I am hopeful that by working together we can pass a responsible spending plan that respects critical services, addresses our financial standing and works to create a stronger Illinois for all residents.”
