“I think that it’s very important for all Illinoisans to stop and take some time during this month to recognize the importance of African-Americans’ contributions to our state and nation,” said Slaughter. “I am very grateful for the opportunity to partner with so many local community organizations to join and celebrate our rich and storied history.”
Attendees will have the pleasure of listening to an informative presentation on the rich history of American-Americans in Chicago. The festivities will conclude with a traditional West African music performance from the Musical Arts Institute along with a Chicago Steppin’ dance performance from the Fort Steppers. This event is free and open to the public
