Latino Caucus: Our Communities Will Not be Terrorized

CHICAGO – The Illinois Legislative Latino Caucus released the following statement in response to Donald Trump’s latest threats to immigrant families:

“Donald Trump is terrorizing immigrant families in order to distract people from his disastrous budget which makes devastating cuts to services that millions of Illinoisans depend on. He’s deliberately intimidating our communities to hide his true plans: cutting Medicaid and other health care programs; slashing assistance for families who lack access to food; and making it harder for students experiencing economic hardship to pay for their education.

“We applaud Chicago for standing strong and making it clear to Donald Trump that we will not take part in his bigoted charade. Illinois is one of the most welcoming states and we’re ready to continue our work to ensure families feel safe and that they understand their rights as immigrants in this country. Our communities will not be terrorized into the shadows.”
