GRANITE CITY, Ill. – State Rep. Katie Stuart, D-Edwardsville, recently met with members of We’ve Been There, a Granite City group that works on senior issues, to share an update from the Elder Abuse Task Force, to which Stuart was appointed this past spring.

“Although the Elder Abuse Task Force is a new committee, we’ve been able to gather a lot of information to begin improving our current laws and protections for seniors,” said Stuart. “This group was perfect to talk to about some of the progress we’ve made so far on the task force, and gather feedback on issues that seniors face.”

Stuart discussed the goals of the Elder Abuse Task Force, a committee established by the state legislature to work on improving the safety of older Americans and efficacy of elder protection laws. Additionally, Stuart discussed and took questions about new legislation and laws that came into effect in the new year that impact the community.

“I would like to thank We’ve Been There for inviting me to be part of their meeting,” Stuart continued. “I value the opportunity to speak to residents about the work I’ve been doing in Springfield, as well as the issues that matter deeply to them.”
