“While the weather has been mild so far, it is always good to be ready for the potentially bad weather conditions that may appear over the next few months,” said Yingling. “Taking a few minutes to plan now may prevent a bad situation in the future, so I highly encourage everyone to take a few steps to prepare themselves and their families for the winter months ahead.”
Winter storms and cold temperatures are two common hazards during the winter. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), there are numerous ways to plan in advance to be prepared for these dangerous weather conditions. Home winterization, which includes installing storm windows and insulation, and car preparations, such as checking tire tread and antifreeze levels, are suggested practices to get ready for harsh weather. The CDC also recommends creating a winter emergency kit while traveling, which includes blankets, food and water, maps and a flashlight. Yingling consistently works for the safety of his constituents. In Springfield, Yingling fought for legislation to close facilities in Gurnee and Waukegan that emit dangerous chemicals that cause cancer in surrounding communities. Yingling has also held events to keep his constituents safe and healthy during the winter months, holding a donation drive for food and clothes for families in need, as well as a Health Fair where attendees were given free flu shots.
“One of the most important aspect of my duties as a state representative is protecting the physical well-being of my constituents,” said Yingling. “While I continue to work to pass legislation that keeps our community safe, I encourage everyone to take the necessary precautions to have a warm and safe winter.”
