Carroll Cautions Against Dangers of Impaired Driving, Promotes Impaired Driving Awareness Month

NORTHBROOK, Ill. – As part of his continued efforts to improve public safety and keep Illinois streets clear of intoxicated and distracted drivers, state Rep. Jonathan Carroll, D-Northbrook, is promoting December as Impaired Driving Awareness Month.

“This holiday season, I want everyone in our community to remain safe and for our streets to be clear of distracted and impaired drivers,” Carroll said. “Impaired driving poses a serious threat to everyone on the road, and Illinois has lost too many lives to these dangers. Public safety is my first priority, and I’ll continue to work to make sure that extends to Illinois roads.”

Impaired driving has taken an enormous toll on American lives. In a recent report, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that, in 2017, over 10,000 lives were lost in alcohol-related motor vehicle crashes alone. The same report shows alcohol-related crashes making up almost 30% of all traffic fatalities; 100% of which are preventable.

“Driving while intoxicated does more than endanger your life, it endangers the lives of countless other people on the road,” Carroll said. “As the holidays approach, I encourage everyone to drive safe, and, if you can’t drive sober, then stay off the road.”
