Buckner, Tarver to Host Fair Housing Town Hall

CHICAGO – To empower local residents, state Rep. Kam Buckner, D-Chicago, and state Rep. Curtis Tarver, D-Chicago, are gearing up to host a Fair Housing Town Hall with the Illinois Human Rights Commission and the Illinois Department of Human Rights. The town hall event will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 12 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the South Side YMCA, located at 6330 S. Stony Island Ave.

“When families are working long hours but still struggling to access quality, affordable housing, it is clear that something needs to change,” said Buckner. “It is critical that residents in our communities are made aware of their rights and protections with regards to housing.”

Bucker and Tarver’s Fair Housing Town Hall, in partnership the Illinois Human Rights Commission and the Illinois Department of Human Rights will address a variety of topics regarding fair housing protections. Residents who attend will have the opportunity to learn more about Illinois’ fair housing protections, the process of a fair housing investigation and recent policy changes to the Illinois Human Rights Act. The event will take place on Dec. 12 and run from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the South Side YMCA. Buckner represents the 26th District, which covers portions of Chicago’s Bronzeville, Gold Coast, Grand Boulevard, Greater Grand Crossing, Hyde Park, Kenwood, Oakland, South Chicago, South Loop, South Shore, Streeterville and Woodlawn.
