DES PLAINES, Ill. – With the area expected to face high seasonal temperatures, state Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, is encouraging residents to check on seniors and to make sure that everyone is following practices to stay cool and healthy.
“Summer heat can cause health problems for some, which is why people need to make sure they are taking steps to prepare for high temperatures,” Moylan said. “This includes making sure that you are hydrated, particularly if you expect to be outside for an extended period of time.”
It is recommended that individuals try to stay in air-conditioned spaces, drink lots of water and avoid going out into the heat if possible. It is important to keep children and pets out of a sitting car that can become dangerously hot. In Des Plaines, the Des Plaines tollway oasis is available for use as a cooling center. Residents can check out information on official cooling centers and other tips at keepcool.illinois.gov.
“I ask that residents please check on their loved ones, particularly seniors, who may have a more difficult time dealing with the weather,” Moylan said. “Hot weather can be incredibly dangerous, let’s make sure we all can enjoy this summer responsibly and safely.”
