GURNEE, Ill. – With the academic year just around the corner, state Rep. Joyce Mason, D-Gurnee, is hosting a school supplies drive from July 15 through August 23. All supplies collected will be donated to local children and families in need.

“For many families, especially those with more than one child, purchasing a long list of new school supplies each year is simply not possible,” said Mason. “I wanted to host a school supply drive to contribute to families in need by alleviating some of the financial burden that comes with sending children back to school each year.”

Mason’s office will be accepting backpacks, pencils, pens, erasers, notebooks, loose-leaf paper, calculators and folders for donation. Residents interested in contributing school supplies are asked to bring their donation to Mason’s district office at 36100 Brookside Dr. in Gurnee during regular business hours. To find an alternative time or location to donate, please contact Mason’s constituent service office at 847-485-9986 or email info@repjoycemason.com.

“I encourage those who are able to consider purchasing some extra supplies on their back to school shopping runs this summer,” Mason added. “An extra pack of crayons or pencils can help ensure a child in our community is successful this school year, while taking some of the financial burden off of families in need and our teachers, who often dig into their own pockets to make sure all of their students are equipped for success.”
