Lilly Shares Legislative Accomplishments at National Organization of Black Elected Legislative (NOBEL) Women Conference

CHICAGO – State Rep. Camille Y. Lilly, D-Chicago, recently attended the 34th annual legislative conference of the National Organization of Black Elected Legislative (NOBEL) Women that was held in Chicago.

“Over the years, NOBEL Women has advocated fiercely to help ensure that black women legislators have more than just a seat at the table and that our voices shape and impact public policy in meaningful ways,” Lilly said. “I was extremely proud to meet colleagues from across the country and share experiences about my work to shape policy in Illinois through my fight for Tobacco 21, to reduce teen smoking and tobacco use in Illinois, and to my efforts to increase civic knowledge and participation among youth.”

NOBEL Women is a nonpartisan organization that works to increase and promote the presence of black women in government. The organization regularly hosts educational forums and training programs for black women legislators. These programs are designed to enhance the ability of black women legislators to advocate for the constituents they represent in order to build stronger, more cohesive communities and to move towards economic and social justice.

 “I am thankful that this conference brought together so many accomplished black women in government to learn from one another and share experiences on how to better service the amazing, diverse communities we represent,” Lilly said. “I look forward to using these experiences to help ensure that the voices of our communities are heard in Springfield as I work to build a stronger Illinois and a stronger middle class.”
