ROUND LAKE BEACH, Ill. – With scams and fraud targeting seniors continuing to be an issue, state Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, is fighting back to protect the senior community. Yingling will be hosting a speaker from the Illinois Attorney General’s Office, who will present information about the latest scams targeting seniors and how to spot them. The seminar will take place at the Round Lake Area Public Library, located at 906 Hart Road, Round Lake, on Thursday, July 2 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
“With technology continuing to get more and more advanced, scams and fraud continue to become harder to spot,” said Yingling. “Providing education on how to identify scams and protect yourself from them is crucial in fighting against those who look to prey on our vulnerable communities.”
Protecting seniors has been a priority for Yingling since entering the General Assembly. Yingling has fought against legislation that would cut funding to elder care programs, which would leave seniors less protected against those who would scam them. In addition to providing seminars and information to help the senior community, Yingling also places a priority on gaining input from seniors on how he can best represent them. Recently, Yingling hosted a town hall to learn about the issues that many seniors face and what he can do to help solve or mitigate those issues.
“Keeping our seniors up-to-date on the latest scams is crucial in the fight against scammers,” said Yingling. “I am committed to fighting against those who look to take advantage of our most vulnerable community members, both here at home and in Springfield.”
