ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. – Recognizing the concern from residents who are upset about the increasingly high cost of property tax bills, state Rep. Mark Walker, D-Arlington Heights, recently backed proposals to create a rebate program for property taxpayers as well as to create a task force designed to deliver comprehensive solutions on how to lower burdens on families.

“High property taxes are making it difficult for many families to make ends meet,” Walker said. “We have to look at multiple ways to address high bills while ensuring critical services and schools receive the resources they need to succeed. This is a multifaceted issue that will require multifaceted solutions.”

Walker supported the creation of the Illinois Property Tax Relief Fund through Senate Bill 39, which would allow for the creation of rebates for homeowners on the property taxes they pay. Concurrently, Walker assisted in passing Senate Bill 1932 which creates the Property Tax Relief Task Force. Members of the task force would be charged with reviewing best practices to effectively create immediate and long-term property tax relief for residents. It is expected that the task force will submit a report on suggested strategies to the governor and General Assembly by the end of the year.

“I look forward to reviewing what is suggested by the task force,” Walker said. “It’s important that we begin to implement strategies as soon as we can so that we can help homeowners across our community.”
