Pappas to Host Free Kidney and Diabetes Screening

BLOOMINGDALE, Ill. – To make proactive health measures more accessible, state Rep. Diane Pappas, D-Itasca, is partnering with the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois (NKFI) and Shree Radhey Shyam Temple to provide a free kidney disease and diabetes screening for residents Saturday, July 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 245 S. Bloomingdale Rd. in Bloomingdale.

“There is often a rapid progression from first being diagnosed as a pre-diabetic, to then developing diabetes, which can later lead to kidney disease,” said Pappas. “I want to provide residents with a free, convenient way to take the first step in screening themselves and their families to prevent progression to more severe and costly health complications later in life.”

The NKFI will be able to screen anyone eighteen years of age or older, and no fasting is required. The screening procedure will include taking the residents’ blood pressure, blood sugar, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference and a urine sample. A blood draw will be taken only if necessary. A medical professional will hold a consultation regarding results to conclude the screening.

“I want to thank the NKFI for partnering with me to facilitate this screening, and I urge all residents of appropriate age to take advantage of this opportunity,” said Pappas.
