Rep. Hernandez Encourages Local Residents to Shop Locally, Participate in Small Business Saturday

AURORA, Ill. – As the holiday shopping season kicks off, state Rep. Barbara Hernandez, D-Aurora, is reminding residents to shop at local businesses as a part of Small Business Saturday on Nov. 30.

“Small businesses play a key role in our economy and help us build stronger communities,” said Hernandez. “By supporting local business owners, we are supporting our neighbors rather than feeding more money into large corporations.”

Small Business Saturday is an annual holiday that takes place immediately after the large commercial shopping holiday, Black Friday, as an effort to encourage shoppers to visit their local shops and restaurants. Small businesses make up 99.6% of businesses in Illinois, with over 307,000 of those minority-owned.  Hernandez is working to ensure all small business owners are able to compete in the local economy, continue to create jobs and have the resources to expand when desired.

“Shopping local gives you the opportunity to find unique and special items with a more personalized shopping experience compared to big commercial stores, with the added benefit of knowing that your purchase is going to benefit the local economy,” said Hernandez. “We have so many great small businesses here in our community, and I look forward to visiting several of them this holiday season. I hope to see locals doing the same.”
