NORTHBROOK, Ill. – State Rep. Jonathan Carroll, D-Northbrook, is recognizing military members and their families for Military Families Appreciation Month by highlighting recent efforts to support active armed forces members, veterans and their families.
“Military Family Appreciation month is a great reminder of the debt of gratitude we owe to service members and their families,” Carroll said. “Military families make tremendous emotional and financial sacrifices to support their loved ones, both while they are serving and after, when they may be dealing with the physical and psychological effects of combat.”
Carroll has aggressively pursued legislation to benefit veterans and their families. He supported Senate Bill 1468, which allows families to take advantage of the Veterans and Military Personnel Discount Program to receive discounts on a wide-range of important products. He has also helped pass House Bill 3424, which creates the Veterans’ Disability Compensation Task Force to evaluate Illinois’ disability compensation system and to investigate the outbreak of Legionnaires at the Quincy VA home. Finally, Carroll pushed for House Bill 120, which creates the Veterans Service-Related Ailments Task Force to generate new solutions to help with the physical problems veterans face as a result of their service time.
“Communities must ensure that military families get the support they deserve for their service to their country,” Carroll said. “Recently, we took some big steps towards that goal, but we have many more to go. I will continue to work to build a stronger, fairer future for military families.”
