SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – In honor of Women’s Awareness Month, state Rep. Diane Pappas, D-Itasca is supporting legislation to help improve social and living conditions of women across Illinois.

“As women, we contribute a great deal of effort to bettering the lives of those in our community,” said Pappas. “In honor of Women’s Awareness month, I encourage our community to acknowledge the impact that women have in our state, and continue to support our efforts to foster opportunities for future generations to succeed.”

To address issues such as the gender wage gap and sexual assault, Pappas is co-sponsoring different measures such as, House Bill 834 that would prohibit employers from screening applicants based on their wage history to help women from being locked into a lifetime of equal pay. Pappas is also supporting House Bill 2412 that would classify sexual assault by deception, a Class 3 felony to hold offenders accountable for their actions and bring justice to the survivors of sexual assault.

“As a legislator, my job is to empower other women and younger generations to pursue their goals,” said Pappas. “I encourage the women in my district to reach out to my office and share their ideas on how we can eliminate barriers that prevent a woman from reaching her ambitions.”
