Yingling Fights to Protect Taxpayers from Double Taxation

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, recently introduced legislation that would prevent double taxation for homeowners who live in a neighborhood association.

“No one should be double taxed to receive basic services,” said Yingling. “Hardworking Illinois families already pay high property taxes, and we need to work to reduce the tax burden on middle-class families so that they can provide for their families.”

Yingling is the Chief House sponsor of House Bill 2212, which would create a property tax abatement equal to the tax levy for the purpose of road and sidewalk maintenance if the homeowner lives in a neighborhood association where membership fees also help maintain roads and sidewalks.

Yingling has previously supported a variety of bills advocating for lower property taxes, including an abatement for first time homeowners and a property tax cut for Lake and McHenry County residents.

“High property taxes are a serious problem facing Illinois residents,” Yingling said. “By finding ways to reduce property taxes, we give Illinois families an opportunity to thrive. When hardworking, middle-class families thrive, everyone benefits.”
