SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – As a co-sponsor of House Resolution 70 declaring March Social Worker Month, state Representative Mark Walker, D-Arlington Heights, joins the rest of the state in recognizing the many dedicated social workers who greatly improve our communities.

“Social workers elevate and empower people in our society,” Walker said. “The over 20,000 social workers in our state are active in our schools, universities, state governments, and social service agencies. They make our communities stronger and healthier every day.”

In addition to aiding those overcoming issues like death or grief, gun violence, environmental pollution, and natural disasters, social workers have been at the forefront of social justice for decades, fighting for equal rights for women, African Americans, Latinos, people who are disabled, and many other underserved groups.

“Our social workers provide critical services to our community and state,” Walker continued. “It is my privilege to co-sponsor declaring March ‘Social Worker Month.’ I will always stand by our social workers and support the critical services they provide.”
