Yednock Supports Legislation to Provide Greater Insurance Coverage for Diseases

 SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Lance Yednock, D-Ottawa, is cosponsoring legislation that would provide for greater insurance coverage of diseases, including those specific to tick-borne illnesses.

“The last thing that any patient needs to worry about is insurance covering their treatment, so that they can recover and get well,” said Yednock. “We constantly hear stories about patients being denied treatments or receiving unreasonable bills because an insurance company has denied their claim. Tick-borne diseases like lyme diseases often require long-term care, and patients deserve the security of knowing insurance will cover their treatment.”

Yednock is supporting House Bill 889 to require insurance companies to cover long-term antibiotic care for patients recovering from tick-borne illnesses. Illinois is home to a large variety of ticks, each capable of carrying and spreading dangerous if not fatal diseases. Those who spend significant time outdoors are more prone to these illnesses, which can require long term care to fully recover.

“With ongoing debates in Washington about health care, my goal is to ensure that all Illinoisans have access to affordable and quality health care,” said Yednock. “This is one of many diseases that can require months of care to full recover, and no person should worry about having their care denied so that they can get well. As state representative, I will continue to look at ways to ensure that insurance companies are providing affordable and proper coverage for those insured.”
