SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – To combat the effects of climate change and move Illinois towards a future of renewable energy, state Rep. Justin Slaughter, D-Chicago, is supporting an initiative to create the Clean Energy Jobs Act (CEJA).

“We must act now to stop the effects of climate change. While our state has made great progress over the last few years, we cannot relent,” said Slaughter. “We need to rely less on fossil fuels and further invest in renewable energy sources such as wind and solar. The Clean Energy Jobs Act continues to put us on the right track. ”

The Slaughter-backed House Bill 3624 creates the CEJA and furthermore requires the state to run completely on renewable energy sources by 2050. The CEJA will gradually transition the state to a green economy by creating a $25 million dollar clean jobs workforce hub and clean energy empowerment zones to assist communities as they transition away from fossil fuels. Additionally, the CEJA will aggressively promote a vehicle electrification program to further reduce greenhouse emissions.

“The Clean Energy Jobs Act is smart and responsible,” continued Slaughter. “By investing in green jobs and renewable energy, we are creating a better future for Illinois.”
