DES PLAINES, Ill . – Continuing his efforts to advocate for property tax relief for homeowners in his district, state Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, recently backed legislation to create a Property Tax Relief Task Force to look at new ways the state can help residents save money on property taxes.

“The residents in my district continue to carry the tax burden of skyrocketing property taxes in our state,” said Moylan. “Homeowners deserve strong advocates willing to fight for them against increasing property taxes year after year. That’s why I backed a task force that will provide recommendations to address the property tax issue this year.”

The Moylan-backed Senate Bill 1932 creates the Property Tax Relief Task Force, which is charged to come up with public policy strategies to create short and long term property tax relief for homeowners. Members of the task force are asked to make recommendations to the Illinois General Assembly about how to develop administrative, electoral and legislative changes to create property tax relief for homeowners. The bi-cameral task force would be comprised of members appointed by the governor, and leadership from both parties from both the House and Senate.

Senate Bill 1932 passed the state House and Senate without opposition and will be sent to the governor’s office for consideration.

“We need to look at new ways to provide real property tax relief for people in Illinois,” said Moylan. “This task force is a first step in the right direction so we can comprehensively understand how to lessen the tax burden on many working and middle class families in our state.”
