CHICAGO – State Rep. John D’Amico, D-Chicago, is encouraging residents in need to apply for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), a winter heating assistance program that helps families pay for utility services.
“As wintery, frigid weather conditions approach rapidly, it’s important that families are aware of this vital program that can help offset higher utility bills and ensure they stay warm this winter,” D’Amico said. “No family should be forced to choose between providing food for their family and keeping their heat on. The LIHEAP program has offered a lifeline to countless families during tough Chicago winters.”
LIHEAP assists eligible families by helping to subsidize winter heating bills in Illinois. The 2019-2020 application period is currently open, and applications are accepted until funding is exhausted. D’Amico is encouraging area residents in need of home heating assistance to visit LIHEAPIllinois.com or to call the state’s toll-free LIHEAP hotline at 877-411-WARM (877-411-9276) for information on income eligibility and how to apply for assistance.
“I encourage families struggling to pay their utility bills to apply for relief from LIHEAP to ensure they stay warm this winter,” D’Amico said. “We must continue to support families struggling to make ends meet and my office is happy to assist people with questions regarding their application.”
