AURORA, Ill. – State Rep. Barbara Hernandez, D-Aurora, is bringing attention to a statewide initiative led by the Illinois State Dental Society (ISDS), to provide free dental services to the veteran community through their “Illinois Dentists Salute” program.

“Access to affordable health care continues to be an issue for the veteran community,” said Hernandez. “I am grateful to ISDS for helping to provide these crucial health services to the men and women who served our country.”

Many veterans do not qualify for free dental insurance through the VA, and neglected dental hygiene issues and mouth disease in the veteran community have become more widespread. These free services are provided by participating members of the Illinois State Dental Society all throughout Illinois. Services differ by provider, but may include cleanings, restorations, extractions, and more. Residents who wish to participate will need a valid military ID, and can visit https://www.isds.org/member-center/access-to-care/illinois-dentists-salute for more information on participating providers in their area.

“Regular dental care visits are just as important as any other health check-ups, and ignoring dental problems can lead to serious infections and illness,” said Hernandez. “I encourage any veteran who does not have dental insurance to visit one of the participating dentists.”
