GRANITE CITY, Ill. – To ensure residents are maximizing their savings this winter, state Rep. Katie Stuart, D-Edwardsville, is encouraging her constituents to attend her upcoming Utility Bill Clinic in Granite City or to apply to state programs like The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

“There are so many expenses over the holiday season for working families, it is worth it to meet with the experts at the Citizens’ Utility Board or talk with my office about options for saving money on your energy costs this winter,” continued Stuart. “CUB has been a reliable community resource to help Illinois energy consumers save on their utility costs each year, so I encourage all residents to join me at my CUB clinic this December.”

Stuart will be hosting a Utility Bill Clinic with the Citizens’ Utility Board (CUB) on Dec. 2 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Granite City Township Office located at 2060 Delmar Ave. in Granite City. The clinic will give information about spotting unnecessary charges on natural gas, electric, or phone bills. The clinic will also promote energy efficiency programs that can help with utility bills and cover the best practices to avoid scams from alternative energy suppliers.  Attendees are encouraged to bring a copy of their utility bills for one-on-one consultations with CUB experts.

In addition to promoting opportunities to save on utility bills, Stuart encourages eligible residents to apply to LIHEAP. LIHEAP gives assistance to low-income households so that warming and cooling their homes isn’t a financial burden.  ILHEAP households that get energy from Ameren Illinois, ComEd, Nicor Gas, and Peoples Gas/North Shore Gas can apply for the Percentage of Income Payment Plan.  This payment plan has residents pay a percentage of their income for their utilities to help with affordability. The applications for PIPP stay open from Oct. 1st until Dec. 31st, or until the funding has run out.

“There are many resources for Illinois residents to save on their energy costs this winter, and all year round,” continued Stuart, “Whether it be through LIHEAP or a consultation with CUB, residents can find out how to save on their utility bills.”
