CHICAGO – After the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) released their Multi-Year Rebuild Illinois Highway Improvement Programs plan last week, state Rep. Nicholas Smith, D-Chicago, is highlighting projects that will impact the local area and region.
“In many communities in our region, we have a dire need to rebuild, repair and renovate our aging infrastructure,” said Smith. “I have worked diligently with IDOT and highlighted areas in the district that have needed significant improvements for years.”
IDOT recently released their multi-year plan, which will include extensive work in and around Smith’s 34th district. Over the next five years, IDOT plans to rebuild, repair and renovate over 57 and a half miles worth of state highways in Smith’s district. Over 50 projects in Smith’s district are part of the infrastructure plan.
“Fixing our crumbling infrastructure not only creates new jobs for our communities, but will also lead to significant and much needed economic development in our area,” said Smith. “I am excited for these projects to start over the next few years and will continue to advocate for infrastructure improvements and economic development for the people in my district while in Springfield.”
