DES PLAINES, Ill. – State Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, will share the concerns of local residents as a member of the newly created, bipartisan Property Tax Relief Task Force directed to develop comprehensive solutions to address rising rates and provide relief to homeowners.
“Every time I go door-to-door, the main thing I hear about are how the property taxes continue to increase and add more tax burden on residents,” Moylan said. “I am motivated to use my position on the newly created task force to demand real property tax relief for local residents.”
The Moylan-backed Senate Bill 1932 creates a bipartisan Property Tax Relief Task Force charged with reviewing best practices in public policy strategies to create short and long-term property tax relief for homeowners. The task force will work in conjunction with the Department of Revenue and will collaborate with the State Board of Education and the Governor’s Office of Management and Budget as necessary. The task force is expected to deliver a report with recommendations of how the state can systemically help ease the tax burden for homeowners by the end of the year.
Moylan has shown that he is a strong advocate to lessen the tax burden on working and middle class families. He has voted numerous of times to freeze or reduce property taxes. Every year, he proactively hosts events to help residents appeal their property taxes by inviting professionals to discuss the appeal process and provide information on property tax exemptions and relief programs that might be available for residents.
Members of the task force, including Moylan, will serve without compensation.
“Fighting for real property tax relief for local families and residents are among my top priorities while in Springfield,” Moylan said. “The people in my community need property tax relief and we should do everything we can to lessen the tax burden on working families.”
