Carroll’s Property Tax Relief Task Force Measure Signed into Law

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Jonathan Carroll, D-Northbrook, sponsored a measure creating the Property Tax Relief Task Force aimed with relieving the burden of property taxes on middle-class homeowners. His measure was signed by Gov. J.B. Pritzker, and the bipartisan task force will provide reforms to lower property taxes.

“Illinois has some of the most punishing property taxes in the United States, and I welcome the opportunity to be a part of the solution to one of this state’s biggest impediments to success,” Carroll said. “Residents of my district need tax relief, and I will fight to deliver that relief as a member of this bipartisan task force and other legislative action.”
Carroll passed Senate Bill 1932, which creates the Property Tax Relief Task Force. The governor signed the measure into law, and Carroll was chosen to represent the House Democratic Caucus on the panel. Within 90 days, the task force will produce a report outlining structural and legislative reforms that will provide both short- and long-term relief for homeowners.

Carroll also supported Senate Bill 39, which establishes the Illinois Property Tax Relief Fund. The fund will provide homeowners with annual rebates to lower their property taxes.

“Middle-class families are especially hurt by our sky-high property taxes,” Carroll said. “My goal is to build a stronger Illinois, but that’s impossible while so many families are under enormous financial pressure. This task force is a great first step towards relieving that pressure.”
