SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Legislation backed by state Rep. Joyce Mason, D-Gurnee, to provide property tax relief for Illinois homeowners was signed into law by Gov. J.B. Pritzker last week.

“As I walk door to door in our community, residents often tell me about the financial burden they face as a result of property taxes that continue to increase each year,” Mason said. “Local homeowners cannot afford sky-rocketing property taxes, and it is clear that real relief is needed.”

The Mason-backed Senate Bill 39 establishes the Illinois Property Tax Relief Fund to provide annual property tax rebates to homeowners who claim a general homestead exemption. The measure received bipartisan support and was signed into law by Gov. J.B. Pritzker on Friday.

“While this legislation helps us take the needed first steps to provide relief for our families, there is still more work to be done to build a stronger middle class in our state,” Mason said. “Creating a better financial future for Illinois is one of my top priorities, and I will continue working for real tax relief, high-wage jobs and economic opportunity.”
