CASEYVILLE, Ill. – To give residents and businesses an opportunity to claim their unclaimed property that is held by the state, state Rep. Katie Stuart, D-Edwardsville, is working with the Illinois State Treasurer’s office to host a free ICash event on Monday, July 22 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Caseyville Public Library on 419 S. Second Street in Caseyville.

“Across the state, residents have unclaimed property,” Stuart said. “Having a free ICash event helps to simplify the process of checking for unclaimed property for my constituents and allows for unclaimed property to be returned to residents.”

During Stuart’s event, a representative from the Treasuer’s office will be there to check the ICash database, explain how residents claim their property, and answer any other questions for residents. The treasurer’s office holds around $2.5 billion in unclaimed property held in differing forms, including saving and checking accounts, payroll checks, stock certificates and uncashed stock dividends, customer deposits, refunds checks and more. Stuart wants to assist residents in claiming their unclaimed property.

“Increasing public awareness about this program can help residents across the state,” said Stuart. “I encourage anyone to come to the event to ensure if they have unclaimed property, they can claim it as soon as possible.”
