CREST HILL, Ill. – Seeking to enrich the lives of incarcerated individuals on their path of rehabilitation, state Rep. John Connor, D-Lockport, teamed up with state Sen. Pat McGuire, D-Joliet, to provide donated books from area residents to local correctional facility libraries.

“I want to thank our local residents who dropped off books for those who are currently serving time in a correctional facility,” Connor said. “A lot of these individuals want to improve their life, and one way to do this is to offer them the opportunity to read and expand their horizons as they serve their time.”

Connor and McGuire collected used fiction and non-fiction books from residents during the month of May. The duo delivered hundreds of donated books this week to local correctional facilities.

“Providing reading material to inmates also makes our prisons safer for our correctional officers,” Connor said. “It gives individuals something to do, and is a positive use of their time. I want to thank Sen. McGuire and his staff for their assistance putting this drive together.”
