ROUND LAKE BEACH, Ill. – The Drug Take-Back event that state Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, hosted with Avon Township and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office took in the most medication of all the seven sites that were held around Lake County.

“Thank you to everyone who took the time out of their Saturday to drive through the snow and drop off their medication,” said Yingling. “Having old, unused medication lying around can become a safety hazard, and disposing of it improperly can have negative effects on the environment. I am glad to see that so many people disposed of their unneeded medication safely.”

The event that Yingling hosted at the Avon Township Building took in more than 150 pounds of medication. No other location took in over 100 pounds. Yingling has fought against the opioid crisis during his time in the state legislature, being a chief cosponsor on legislation that created the Heroin Crisis Act. Safely disposing of unused medications is an important step in preventing potential opioid addictions.

“As the opioid epidemic continues to worsen, we all must do our part to prevent overdoses,” said Yingling. “Getting rid of your unused medication is a great way to prevent potential opioid addictions from ever occurring.”
