SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – In an effort to combat unfair taxation in Illinois, state Rep. Daniel Didech, D-Buffalo Grove, introduced a measure to stop the delinquency penalty on mobile homes from overwhelming taxpayers.

“Under the current law, people who are delinquent on their mobile home taxes are often charged a penalty that is several times larger than their original tax bill,” Didech said. “The people most affected by these penalties are often the people who can least afford it. We need to take action to fix this unfair practice.”

Didech introduced House Bill 925, which changes the way that Illinois assesses penalties on delinquent mobile home taxes, so that the maximum penalty for late taxes is $100 or 50% of their original tax bill. Currently, homeowners are charged $25 a month up to $100, which causes some tax bills to quickly grow to several times their original size.

Didech’s legislation passed the House unanimously and awaits further consideration in the Senate.

“There is a very unfair situation in our state that this bill would fix immediately,” Didech said. “Our community can’t wait for their relief.”
