SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, is sponsoring legislation that allows children and grandchildren of fallen first responders to acquire license plates honoring their family member.
“When a first responder gives the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, we have to remember them,” Moylan said. “Offering specialized license plates to their family is one small gesture from our state to honor their memory.”
Moylan is backing Senate Bill 1894, which allows children and stepchildren of fallen police officers and firefighters who died in the line of duty to apply for special license planets. Currently, these license plates are only available to the parents and spouses of deceased first responders. In Illinois, four police officers and one firefighter have already died in the line of duty in 2019 alone.
“My grandfather gave his life while serving as a police officer, so I understand the pain of these family members,” Moylan said. “Allowing families to further honor their loved ones who gave everything to serve their communities is the least we can do for grieving families.”
