Moylan Sponsors Bill Authorizing Police to Revoke FOID Cards of Persons Convicted of Stalking

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, is co-sponsoring legislation that gives the Illinois State Police the ability to revoke Firearm Owner Identification Cards (FOID) for those who have been convicted of stalking.

“It is alarming that people convicted of stalking and other similar offenses can continue to own FOID cards when they have a proven track record of inappropriate behavior,” Moylan said. “To prevent this from continuing, I am co-sponsoring a bill to give state police greater authority to oversee the application and renewal process.”

The Moylan-supported House Bill 887 would authorize the Illinois State Police to revoke or deny FOID cards for individuals convicted of stalking where a firearm was recorded as having been used or present during the incident. The bill is designed to give state police broader discretion in determining the eligibility of individuals possessing FOID cards as well as those applying for them.

“We need to make every effort to empower police with the tools and resources they need to crackdown on crime and criminally deviant behavior,” Moylan said. “This legislation moves us forward in attempting to meet that goal.”
