Manley Leads Bipartisan Fight to Save Taxpayer Money Through Local Government Consolidation

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, is sponsoring legislation to consolidate the position of township clerk within the six townships in Will County that reside within the Illinois House 98th legislative district.

“The property tax burden on the homeowners throughout Illinois is immense, and continues to rise each year,” said Manley.  “I have listened to my constituents, and continue to fight to pass good government legislation to save them money.  My bill will streamline services, eliminate duplication, and ultimately save homeowners money.”

Manley’s House Bill 3301 recently passed out of the Illinois House Counties and Townships Committee with bipartisan support, and has moved to the House to be fully considered by lawmakers throughout the state. Manley’s proposal will serve as a pilot program and a model to potentially be implemented throughout the rest of the state by eliminating the position of township clerk in the six townships in Will County within Manley’s district. Manley’s legislation is backed by a bipartisan group of legislators.

“The residents of my district have shown overwhelming support for my efforts to consolidate local units of government,” continued Manley.  “If we can combine and centralize services and in the long run, reduce the cost to taxpayers, we better do so.  Every elected official should be eager to sit down and discuss this measure and any other ideas they may have that lead to the same result.”
