State Rep. Walker Meets with Directors of Homelessness Prevention Agency

PALATINE, Ill. – Committed to ending homelessness, state Rep. Mark Walker, D-Arlington Heights, met recently with Beth Nabors, Executive Director of JOURNEYS, and Suzanne Ploger, Development Director for the organization, to discuss homelessness in the community and what can be done to address it.

“Unfortunately, financial instability is a growing reality for too many,” Walker said. “That’s why the work JOURNEYS does is so important. As a former board member of JOURNEYS, I remain focused on working to end homelessness and financial insecurity.”

Since October 2001, JOURNEYS The Road Home has housed a PADS emergency shelter program and day services through the HOPE Day Center, which includes a food pantry, clothing closet, hot meals, laundry facilities, onsite nursing care, professional referrals and mental health counseling. In the coming years, JOURNEYS is looking to open a year-round shelter system, create a robust transportation system and establish a comprehensive affordable housing program.

“JOURNEYS provides shelter and social services to 37 communities in our area, reaching nearly 900 clients alone last year,” Walker said. “I’m proud to support vital organizations like JOURNEYS in their mission to provide affordable housing, temporary shelter and life-saving services to those in need in our communities.”
