SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Camille Y. Lilly, D-Chicago, met with Illinois firefighters recently at the Capitol to discuss legislation that would directly impact first responders.
“Firefighters work every day to keep our families safe, extinguish blazes and to help provide emergency care,” Lilly said. “I’m proud to work with firefighters to help make Illinoisans safer and to provide emergency responders the tools they need to not only provide excellent fire suppression services, but to also stay safe themselves.”
Firefighters from across the state visited the Illinois State Capitol for the Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois’ annual advocacy day and legislative conference. Lilly met local firefighter Nick Steker of the Franklin Park Fire Department and his colleagues to discuss safety and labor issues related to firefighting.
“Firefighters deserve the respect of all of us for the important work they do to keep Illinoisans safe,” added Lilly. “As legislators, it is our job to make sure that firefighters aren’t impeded from keeping us safe and that they are supported with the necessary resources to fight fires and prevent fires.”
