Yednock Supports New Options for Hunters and Fishers

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Lance Yednock, D-Ottawa, is sponsoring legislation that would support local hunters and sportsman by creating an easier and streamlined hunting and fishing license that would be valid for five years in Illinois.

“Often times, red tape from the state or other governments can get in the way of recreational activities, especially when it comes to hunting or fishing,” said Yednock. “This would create a longer license that would be valid for 5 years, creating less of a burden for those who want to share their love of the outdoors with family or friends, rather than worrying about government red tape.”

Yednock-backed House Bill 1598 creates the option for residents of Illinois to obtain 5-year hunting, fishing and sportsman licenses. Currently, the only options available are 1-year licenses and lifetime licenses. Under the expanded license, fees would still be reduced in half for seniors and veterans. Yednock has also introduced legislation that would expand allowable weapons for deer hunting.

“Hunting and fishing are more than a hobby for many sportsman in Illinois, and representing an area that has plenty of opportunities for outdoorsmen, I want to make sure that the state makes it as easy as possible,” said Yednock. “By offering more and easier license options, we allow Illinoisans to better enjoy the outdoors.”
